Promises and Beacons Programme
Promises and Beacons - Autumn 2025
Across the term, our pupils have thrown themselves into an exciting range of activities, all helping them work towards the Eight Promises we make to every pupil during their 7-year journey at Oak Wood. These Promises aim to:
• Boost academic development by deepening understanding and sparking real curiosity.
• Build personal and social confidence, including teamwork, independence, social skills, and critical thinking.
• Expand cultural capital and inspire lifelong interests through new, memorable experiences.
From the buzz of break and lunchtime clubs to the energy of after-school sessions, it has been fantastic to see our pupils embracing so many opportunities beyond the classroom. Every club, trip, event, and leadership role brings the Promises to life and helps our pupils grow academically, socially, and culturally.
This term also marked brilliant progress in the Beacons Programme, our character-building journey that supports students from Bronze (KS3) to Silver (KS4) and on to Gold (KS5). The programme is built around five life-skills pillars: Participation, Leadership, Community, Service, and Excellence—and pupils have shown these qualities in abundance! Whether volunteering, leading, collaborating, or going the extra mile, so many students have made proud steps towards their Beacon awards.
The excitement continued beyond school grounds with a brilliant range of trips and visiting workshops. From inspiring museum visits and lively theatre trips to outdoor learning adventures and expert-led sessions, pupils had plenty of opportunities to take their learning into the real world and explore brand-new environments. These experiences not only broaden horizons but also help build the cultural capital and confidence that sit at the heart of our Promises.
We are incredibly proud of every student who stepped out of their comfort zone, tried something new, found a fresh interest, or committed to a club this term. With even more enrichment opportunities on the horizon for the spring term, we cannot wait to see what our pupils achieve next—there truly is something for everyone!
Wishing all families a joyful, restful, and thoroughly well-deserved break.
